In his memoir, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams recalled visiting Mary Richardson Jones at her home on Ray Avenue in Chicago in 1880. Dr. Williams went on to found Provident Hospital and Training School for Nurses in 1891, which Mary Jones supported financially. In racially segregated Chicago, Provident was a hospital that would serve African American patients.
