John Jones portrait, 1864

In 1864, painter Aaron E. Darling completed the oil portraits on canvas of Mary Richardson Jones and John Jones. Jones wears a Masonic emblem stickpin in his shirt and holds an ivory-handled cane. He belonged to the Masons, a fraternity or club for men, and had a Masonic lodge, or club building, on Clark Street named for him.
