As seen in this flag, some suffrage organizations adopted purple, white, and gold to represent women’s rights. Purple stood for justice, white for purity, and gold for courage. Chicagoan Crescentia Birren used this flag during the 1916 convention of the National Woman’s Party in Chicago.
