The Coordinating Council of Community Organizations (CCCO), which organized the Freedom Day demonstration, held Freedom Schools that day at libraries, houses of worship, and community centers. Many students attended to discuss freedom and learn about Black history from a curriculum developed by a group called Teachers for Integrated Schools.
